Obituary

Robert “Bob” Austin Sawyer, age 82, died peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Evant, Texas to Putnam and Fleta (Thompson) Sawyer on Thursday, February 11, 1937. In his younger years, Bob was quite the athlete, excelling in any athletic endeavor he tried. After graduation, he served in the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge for serving his country. Bob found his career with the United States Post Office as a letter carrier, retiring after 36 years of service. He was and had always been a very responsible and disciplined man. Bob is fondly remembered for his love of country music, and for being a talented guitar player. He enjoyed the great outdoors, especially when opportunities to go fishing came up. On Saturday, December 28, 1957 Bob married the love of his life Nancy and they began their family. Bob loved his family more than anything, he had always done everything required to care for and look after them, this included his beloved dog Peppy, who was always by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents Putnam and Fleta Sawyer, daughter Debra Sawyer and sister Doris McCarver. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 62 years, Nancy Sawyer; son David Sawyer; brother Jim Sawyer and wife Ann; grandson Billy Peevey as well as numerous extended family and friends. A committal service with Military Honors will be held at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mtn Creek Pkwy in Dallas on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 11:00am.

My wife and I worked with Bob at the USPS for a lot of years. He was one of the people who trained me when I first came in. Over the years we became friends, both at and away from work. He was a good man. Our condolences to the family.
