Charles “Charlie” Hayes Crockett, Sr. passed away on his 94th birthday, Sunday, August 18, 2019, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Springtown, Arkansas, and was the son of Charles Hayes Crockett & Esther S. Smith and was a direct descendant of David “Davey” Crockett, King of the wild frontier.
Charlie was an outgoing and successful entrepreneur, rancher, fisherman and business owner. In his early years he owned a car dealership and a bank located in Ingleside, TX. Charlie raised cattle and owned a ranch in East Texas. In 1962, when Charlie was 37, he made a financial contribution that helped found Irving Community Hospital that opened in 1964, and is now known as Baylor Scott and White in Irving.
Charlie majored in Chemical Engineering at the University of Arkansas, which prepared him for his lifelong career as Founder & Owner of Crockett Concrete Company, which is based in Irving Texas. His company was one of the first post-war ready-mix concrete companies in Dallas County and was responsible for much of the concrete work done on Cowboy’s Texas Stadium in the days of Tom Landry. Charlie was member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, the Las Colinas Country Club, the Dallas Country Club and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Irving. Fishing was a favorite past time for Charlie and he ended up turning into a business. He went into the offshore charter fishing and shrimping business on the Texas coast. During the 60s, 70s, and 80s, Charlies was a legend at catching big fish from Port Aransas to the South Padre Islands. He will be remembered as a loving and generous father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Charlie is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Patti Purl Crockett. He is survived by his daughter Kim Campbell and husband Thomas H.; son Charles Hayes Crockett Jr. and wife Stacey; son Brant E. Crockett and wife Irma; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; half-sister Esther Jane Center Worrell as well as numerous nephews, nieces and other loving extended family and friends.
A special thank you to Charlies daughter in law Irma, for taking such good care of him in her home the last years of his life. In addition a special heartfelt thank you to Catherin Morton, Sherrie Dragna, Irasema Garcia and who came to the house and helped provide support and care.
The family will receive friends between 6:00 and 8:00pm, Monday, August 26, 2019 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 N. MacArthur Blvd in Irving. A funeral service will be at 10:00am on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 also at the funeral home with an interment at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens immediately following.
