Verda Burns, age 95, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 11, 2019. Verda was born on December 18, 1923 in Erath County, Texas to Marvin Davis and Mariam (St.Clair) Davis. Verda had a strong passion for church ministry. She served with Sisters in Service and worked diligently to make items for veterans and most recently was crocheting house shoes to take to the those who served. She spent many hours making hats for the homeless and was instrumental in the nursery development of South MacArthur Church of Christ. She was a very faithful church member and was in attendance even up to her homegoing. She was a wonderful shining example of a godly woman and pulled so much joy from serving the church by caring for the little ones. Verda made the most of life everywhere she went. She loved her children, grandchildren, her church and touched the lives of those in her retirement home. In her own words, “No one loved their family more than I.” She was a powerful instrument of God’s righteousness who will be dearly missed. Verda is preceded in death by her parents; husband J.W. Burns; daughter Sherry Williams; daughter in law Sandy Burns; brothers Bill W. Davis and James E. Davis. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Jean House and husband Billy; son Jerry W. Burns; daughter Fretta Jackson and husband Steve; sister Gail Teegarden; brother S. M. “Buddy” Davis; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; more than thirty great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 North MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75061. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 16 ,2019 at Christ Church Irving, 1750 E. Airport Freeway, Irving, TX 75062. Those who wish to make donations may make them to the Christ Church building fund.
