Obituary

Thelma Jean Sims Trifovesti

Thelma to her family, Jean to her friends, she was born October 23, 1934 to Madison and Gussie Sims in Dallas, Texas. At 3 years old, her mother passed away and she was raised under the watchful eyes of her beloved aunt and uncle, Ada and Patrick Daily in Oak Cliff. She attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School where, as a junior, she began work at Globe Life Insurance. She left Globe after the birth of her second child as executive assistant and manager of the secretarial pool.

She married the love of her life and life long partner Russell Trifovesti in 1955. They shared 57 years together. They raised three children and built four businesses together – TWA Metals, T-5 Distributors, T-5 Spray Shields, and T-5 Fasteners. They moved to Irving in 1960 and joined St. Luke’s Catholic Church. Jean was an active member of the Altar Society for 60 years and served as President for multiple terms. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and served as a regional officer. She also served on the Dallas Deanery Council of Catholic Women. Jean and Russ were devoted lifelong patrons of the Discalced Carmelite Monastery of Dallas.

Thelma Jean passed away peacefully on November 29, 2020. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Madison and Gussie, her Aunt Ada and Uncle Pat, her sisters Elizabeth, Marie, and Geraldine, her beloved husband, Russ, and her precious daughter, Trish Stowell. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Louise; her son, Russell II; her son-in-law, Brian; her grandsons Christopher, Eric and Blake; her granddaughter, Samantha Mary Jean; her nieces Lynda, Judy and Karin; her nephews Steven and Phil and numerous great grandchildren, great nieces and great great nieces and nephews.

Thelma Jean was well loved by all who knew her. She was fierce in defense of her family, friends, and faith; generous to those less fortunate; and kind and loving to all. She will be dearly missed.

Due to Covid, a Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Dallas or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
