Norma Childers, age 88, went home to be with The Lord on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 surrounded by her family and loved ones. Norma was born on April 24, 1930 in the small west Texas town of Rockdale, to Hattie J. and David Wooddell. Norma was a faithful member of Village Baptist Church in Irving. She spent many years working as a medical transcriptionist, continuing to work until just a few short months ago. Norma is preceded in death by her husband R. L. Childers; infant daughter Molly Dawson; brother Edward Wooddell, sister Virgie Jeffus. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Sherry Dorety and husband Jim; sons Darrell Dawson and wife Mary, Joe Dan Dawson; daughter Valerie Gaught; sister Janette Smith; twelve grandchildren Stacey Shelby and husband Trey, Monica King and husband Dennis, Christopher Dorety, Sarah Dawson, Steven Dawson, Lacey Dawson, D.J. Dawson, Ginnie Hail, Kevin Dawson, Caroline Dawson, Jillian Dawson, Caleb Dawson; five great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and loving friends. A very special mention of thanks to Bluebonnet Hospice for the exceptional love and care that was given to Norma in her last days. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 North MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75061. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 pm, on Monday, April 8, 2019 at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 E. Irving Blvd., Irving, TX 75060. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Village Baptist Church of Irving, 224 E. Grauwyler Rd., Irving, TX 75061.
