Obituary for Melvadean Carpenter (Hodges)

Melvadean Carpenter passed away at her Irving home on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 74 years of age. She was born in Dallas, Texas to Walter Melvin and Waldine (Emmons) Hodges on Wednesday, April 10, 1946. Melvadean having been raised in a large family of 6 siblings, family was always a big part of her life. She married the love of her life James Carpenter in 1964 and began their family. Together they raised 2 children who later in life gave her 2 beautiful granddaughters, whom she loved more than anything. She was of the Southern Baptist faith, enjoyed ceramics and found much joy in cooking. Her 2 favorite holidays being Thanksgiving and Christmas was of no surprise, as they combined 2 of the things she loved most, her family and cooking. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Carole Wester. Left to cherish her memory are beloved husband of 54 years, James Carpenter; daughter Katrina Young; son Bryan Carpenter; brother Joe Hodges; sister Charlotte Kennedy; brother Brad Hodges; brother David Hodges; brother Clyde Hodges; 2 beloved granddaughters; 2 great granddaughters as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended loving family. Graveside service will be 10:00 am, Monday, June 29, 2020 at Crown Hill Memorial Park, 9178 Webb Chapel Rd. in Dallas. A brief viewing will be available between 9:00 and 9:40am, prior to the start of the graveside for attendees observing the safe distancing and face mask order.
