Obituary for Melva Jean Sass (Sadler)

Melva Jean Sass, age 86, died on Wednesday, December 25, 2019. Melva was born in Leonard, Texas to Una and James Creed Sadler on December 7, 1933. Melva was a true servant at heart and served her family well throughout the years primarily as a homemaker. She did work in the cafeteria of A. S. Johnston Elementary School for fifteen years, retiring in 1999. Melva was very involved in her children’s schooling and found herself volunteering her time in all areas of the school, in any way she was needed. Melva also enjoyed cooking and baking and was especially known for her pies. Her church came to expect and love Melva’s pies, especially this time of year, at Christmas. Melva was a true believer of God and a strong Christian woman, which was evident by the worn and tattered pages of her bible. It is only fitting that she entered heaven to meet her Lord and Savior face to face on the day that is recognized as the birth of Jesus Christ, the one who saved her. Melva is no longer weighted down by any sickness or worries of this world. She is in a beautiful place and has been reunited with the love of her life, Eddy Sass, husband of sixty-one years, as well as her sisters Margaret Lopez and Sally King. Left to cherish her memory and live on in her legacy are sons John Moody and wife Mary of Pennsylvania and Robert Moody and wife Sharon of Garland, Eddy Sass Jr. and wife Cynthia of California; daughters Jeannie Driggars of Denton, Edie Stephens and husband John of Irving, Vickie Brown of Dallas; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; brothers Bill Sadler, Jerry Sadler, James Sadler; sisters Wilma Monk, Nell Hoyle, Mary Jo Brunson; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended family and loving friends. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 North MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75061. A funeral service will be held at 11am, following the time of visitation on Saturday, in the chapel of the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 E. Irving Blvd., Irving, TX 75061.
