Lorene Kerns, 99, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, on January 25, 2020. She was born to James and Chessie Basham, on March 18, 1920. Lorene was a devout member of First Christian Church for over 60 years, where she held a position as Deacon Emeritus. She was a hairdresser for 52 years, retiring in 1991. Lorene loved being a part of the Texas Rangers Women’s Club for 32 years. She drove stock cars in the 40s and early 50s in the north Texas area. She loved her church, sports, fishing, and family.

Lorene is preceded in death by, husband, Robert (Pops) Kerns; five brothers and sisters; father, James Edward Basham; mother, Chessie Webb. She is survived by, son, Edward “Buddy” L. Sissom of Irving, TX; daughter, Betti Gregory of Grapevine, TX; son, Charles (Aughany) King and wife Kendra of Denton, TX; sister, Nina Sanders of Abilene, TX; Grandchildren: Buddy Sissom Jr. of Irving, TX; Kimberly Sissom of Irving, TX; Greg Chappell and wife Kim of Van, TX; Jud Chappell and wife Jen of Nacogdoches, TX; Austin King and wife Kaley of Norman, OK; Skylar King and wife Anna of Norman, OK; Great Grandchildren: Dylan Sissom of Irving, TX; Cash Chappell of OK; Rylie Peterson and husband Zach of Lindale; Will Chappell of San Marcus; Andrew Chappell of Marshall; and her beloved bichon, Tator. As well as numerous family and friends who will miss her dearly.

In lieu of flowers family asks donations to be made in Lorene’s name to First Christian Church 104 W. Grauwyler Rd. Irving TX, 75061. A visitation will be held between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 N. MacArthur Blvd in Irving. The Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020 at First Christian Church 104 W. Grauwyler Rd. Irving TX, 75061 with an internment to follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens 1413 E. Irving Blvd. Irving TX, 75060.
