Obituary for Lee Roy Armstrong

Lee Roy Armstrong will be remembered as a man who did it all. He was a very caring father who believed strongly in tough love. He was quick to help anyone in need, but never in the form of a handout. Lee Roy helped by empowering others, not enabling them. Lee Roy’s story is one from “Rags” to “Riches”. He grew up on a farm in West Texas, went on to graduate from Texas Tech University, and took what he learned in both places to become a successful Entrepreneur. Lee Roy possessed a very strong work ethic. He was one of the first Polaroid Dealers in Texas and traveled to every Sam’s location in a mobile home, when they first opened to deliver their Membership cameras and supplies. One year, for his birthday, Lee Roy hitched a trailer to his tractor and had his family walk behind him picking up rocks. 10 acres later the family was “hurtin’ for certain”. Lee Roy was a self-taught mandolin, guitar, banjo, and stand up bass player, and at one time sang with Waylon Jennings. He was a lifelong wheeler and dealer and loved the ladies, especially the Hooters girls. He enjoyed working on old cars with his son John and was also an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing whenever given the opportunity. He had a pilot’s license, a passion for hot rods and even owned a funny car. Lee Roy was one of a kind who will never be forgotten by those who crossed his path.

Lee Roy is preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne Ruth Armstrong; parents, Melvin and Edna Armstrong; brother, Melvin Stewart Armstrong; sister, Sharon Kay; grandsons; Jeremy and Jerry Freestone.
