Obituary for Larry Vickers

Larry Wayne Vickers, beloved husband and father, passed away on the evening of October 29, 2019 at the age of 71. He was surrounded by the warmth and love of his family.

Born in Paris, TX on April 28, 1948, he was raised in the small East Texas town of Blossom by his parents Fred and Robbie Nell Chance. The family eventually moved to Irving, then to Lewisville where Larry graduated from Lewisville High School in 1966. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and worked as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Technician.

While on a Temporary Duty Assignment in the Philippines, Larry met the love of his life Aurea DeVera. They were married on November 6, 1977 and had four children: 3 boys and 1 girl. He retired from the Air Force in 1986 after 20 years of service. After retirement, the family moved to his home state of Texas where Larry went to school to become a Telecommunications Engineer.

Larry was a proud Vietnam War veteran, an avid reader and book collector, and fan of rock music. Of course, he was also a passionate Dallas Cowboys fan. Above all, he loved his family more than anything. He is preceded in death by his mother Robbie Nell Chance and his sister Carol Ann Ragland. His memory will continue to live on through his devoted wife Aurea Vickers; sons Jerrold Vickers, Sean Vickers, Brandon Vickers and wife Maricel Virata; daughter Michelle Vickers and husband Keith Hayes; father Fred Chance Sr.; aunt Roberta Parks and husband George Parks; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Larry will forever be in the hearts of those he loved.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 6PM to 8PM at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 North MacArthur Blvd, Irving, TX 75061. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11AM on Friday, November 8, 2019 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home. A Committal with Full Military Honors will follow at 1PM at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
