Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Orville Solvig, born in Chicago to Roy and Veronica Solvig in 1934, passed in peace in Irving, Texas on February 12, 2020. He is survived by his brother, Roy G. Solvig and sister-in-law, Kathy Solvig; his daughter, Kathleen Sue Burell and her husband, William; and daughter, Sandra Lee McFarland and her husband, Glenn. He is also survived by his grandson, J.L. Michael Sachs and nephew, Arnold Solvig.
Please now cue Larry’s life theme song, “I Did it My Way,” to play in the background as you read this accounting of a life well-lived.
Independence was his hallmark – he truly did not like for his “progress to be impeded” – but he also had a kind, generous, and loving heart.
Larry was very proud that he and his brother, Roy, were members of the Boy Scout Troup 111’s drum and bugle corps that became the world-famous Chicago Cavaliers.
He married Sue Ellen Anderson in 1958, with whom he had his two (lovely and talented) daughters. Although he and Sue Ellen divorced in 1978, they remained friends throughout their lives.
Larry loved music and dancing - roller skate dancing, Country & Western dancing, ballroom dancing…teaching dancing – yes, DANCING was his deep passion that he shared with several long-time (also lovely and talented) friends. He also loved to play all manner of games…and most especially loved winning them.
Larry had many talents that served him well in his varied occupations, of which these were his favorites: Navy SeaBee; truck driver; carpenter; security guard; and Las Colinas tram driver.
A Committal service will be held at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 E. Irving Blvd., in Irving on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 2:30pm.
