Obituary for Joy Del Hollowell

Joy Del Hollowell, 84 passed away and joined her heavenly father on August 30, 2020. Joy was born April 13, 1936 in Ada, Oklahoma to John and Inez Hurst and was the youngest daughter of three children.

Growing up in Nebraska and Oklahoma, Joy loved horseback riding, swimming and being outdoors. She adored her older brother, Jim and followed him everywhere. She also loved to annoy her older sister, Helen as younger sisters do. Upon graduating from Northeast High School in Oklahoma City in 1954 Joy immediately went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company which was the beginning of a long and fulfilling career in the telephone industry eventually retiring from GTE.

Shortly after high school she married the love of her life Gerald Hollowell who preceded her in death after 47 wonderful years of marriage. Joy was a devoted Christian and a member of Oak View Baptist Church and always put God and family above herself. Her greatest pleasures were attending church and reading the Bible, but most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She instilled strong family values and faith in her children and her unconditional love will forever be in their hearts. Joy brought immeasurable love and happiness to her grandchildren who will cherish the impact she had on their lives.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; parents John and Inez Hurst; siblings Jim Hurst and Helen LaFevers. She is survived by: 3 children, David Hollowell and wife, Cheryl; Robin Petree and husband Ken; Sheila Gorman and husband Chris. 10 grandchildren: Matt Bower (Kylie); Jenny Bower (Stefan); Andrew Petree (Tara); Carmen Cleghorn (Dean); Mike Petree (Loree); Heather Petree; Eric Petree; Stephanie Trammell (Ryan); Laura Reichen (J.D.); and Bradley Gorman(Megan). 9 great grandchildren: Trent, Lexi, Grayson, Jonathan, James, Chatham, Kaeson, Kyle and Joseph.
