Obituary for Joe Watson

Joe Watson, age 93, died on Friday, June 07, 2019. Joe was born in Santa Anna, Texas on October 10, 1925 to Lela May (Vanderford) Watson and Raymond F. Watson. Joe was a long-time Irving resident often referred to as the “Downtown Mayor”. He served the Irving community as one of the first volunteer firefighters and was a business owner of Watson Radiator for forty-four years. He was a very honest and talented mechanic who was trusted by many. He possessed a very generous spirit and never passed on meeting the needs of others. Joe was an awesome patriot who served his country in the Merchant Marines for three years. He was a great example of how a man should treat others, he loved bird hunting, going to the horse races and “politicking” whenever given the chance. He was the dispenser of nicknames and wrapped up the conversation with “Boing”. Joe has been reunited with the love of his life, “Bibble” or as he affectionately referred to her as “Babbles” who he was married to for seventy-one years. He is also preceded in death by his parents R.F. and Lela Watson, brothers Bud and Wayne Watson, and sister Carmetta Rose Hart. Left to cherish his memory are sons Bobby Joe Watson, Jackie Lee Watson and wife Sharron; granddaughters Shelly Watson, Kelley Sizemore and husband Richard; great grandsons Austin and Adam Sizemore; great granddaughter Angelica Hernandez; as well as numerous other devoted family members and a host of loving friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 North MacArthur Blvd., Irving, Texas 75061. A graveside service will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 E. Irving Blvd., Irving, TX 75060.
