JoAnn “Jo” Odom, age 65, died on Monday, December 9, 2019. Jo was born on August 30, 1954 in Houston, Texas to Arthola (Owens) Mattox and Early Ray Mattox. Jo possessed a very rare open-mindedness and cared for her family in very genuine ways. She was constantly “on the go” and Galveston, Texas was one of her favorite places. She loved cooking and many benefited as they enjoyed eating her recipes. Jo was quite the bowling fan with her family and never passed up the movies. She was a very hard worker and once a nurse always a nurse. She was something else. She knew what needed to be said and had no problem expressing it to whoever needed to hear it. Jo had a strong love for her family and put the entirety of her heart into raising her children. She will be dearly missed by those who were blessed to know her. Jo is preceded in death by her parents Early and Arthola Mattox; brothers Chester, Robert, Michael and James Mattox. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Nakia Mattox; sons Andre and Dante Mattox; grandchildren Charlene and De’Charles Calhoun, Brandon Sneed, Andre Jr, Quindarius, Quintavious and Andrea Mattox; great grandchildren Sariah Osborn and Ge’Lani Joseph; as well as numerous other extended family and loving friends.
