Obituary for Gilbert Calvin Anderson

Gilbert Calvin Anderson, age 92, died peacefully at home in Irving, Texas surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, December 9, 2019. He was born in Davilla, Texas to Edward and Ethel Marie (Brown) Anderson on Wednesday, March 23, 1927. Gilbert proudly served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, retiring as Staff Sergeant in 1966. During WWII, he was a member of the 124th Ordnance Battalion, B Company. He excelled in the area of aviation radio communications from his studies at Texas State Technical College and experience in the U.S. Army which applied to his post military career. He was hired on at Rockwell International in Richardson, Texas for his last position for many of years before his 1989 retirement.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard, James Preston and George Anderson, sisters Ginger Bell Spaulding, Audrey Gyllenskog and June Horn. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Lien Anderson; daughter Catherine Anderson of Atlanta, Georgia; son Edward Anderson and wife Kimberly of San Diego, California; granddaughter Gwyneth Anderson of San Diego, California; granddaughter Lyla Anderson of San Diego, California; sister Dawn Wagner of College Station, Texas; niece Jane Joplin of Irving, Texas as well as numerous extended family and friends. The family will receive friends between 1:00 and 3:00pm on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 N. MacArthur Blvd in Irving. A graveside service with Full Military Honors will be held at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mtn Creek Pkwy in Dallas on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 9:15am. The family invites you after the service to join them for a reception at the American Legion Post 453, 2755 Bachman Dr. in Dallas between 10:00am and 2:00pm.
