Obituary for Galen M. Burke

Burke, Galen Galen Burke, 82 years, passed away at home on November 18, 2019, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born March 21, 1937 to James and Iris Burke, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Burke. A loving husband and father, Galen is survived by his wife, Susan Burke, of 46 years and son, Adrian Burke and his wife Ann Burke, sister Eileen and her husband Bob Harbin, as well as many close cousins and extended family. Galen attended the University of Wisconsin and obtained a degree in social work. During this same time, he became a Navigator, and then pilot in the Air National Guard, flying F-89's. After leaving the Guard, he was hired by Braniff Airways for fifteen years, working as a flight engineer then copilot on the Boeing 747. After Braniff Airways went out of business, Galen started his own filmmaking and optical printing business out of his home. Galen was an avid photographer, as well as audiophile, where nothing but the purest of vinyl sounds would do. In his spare time, he substitute taught at the local junior and senior high school, and lead the MacArthur Band Booster association where Adrian attended. He enjoyed spending time with his family, out on their sailboat or 'camping' in their motor home. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Memorial service to be held 2:30pm, Monday, December 9, 2019 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 N. MacArthur Blvd in Irving.
