Obituary for Dorothy McIntosh (Brinton)
Dorothy Marie (Brinton) McIntosh died peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, March 29, 2020 in Irving, TX. She was born in Bassano, Alberta, Canada on July 18, 1938 and spent her childhood on the family wheat farm in Hussar. She always referred to herself as just a little girl from the prairies of Alberta. In grade 10 she attended boarding school at Camrose Lutheran College in Camrose, Alberta. Upon graduating she moved to the big city of Calgary where she met her future husband, D. Keith McIntosh.
Her adult life was full of many adventures and relocation travels. After having her two daughters in Calgary, the family of four moved to Brisbane, Australia; London, England and Lagos, Nigeria, Africa before finally settling in the U.S. for good. She lived a wonderful life full of fun and friends in both Houston, TX and Tulsa, OK for many years before eventually moving to Dallas, TX to be closer to her only grandchild, her beloved Sam. “GG” and Sam were incredibly lucky to have shared 16 years of memories together.
Some of the things Dorothy loved the most aside from her relationships with people were: good conversation; crisp, clean bed linens; her faith; the Queen; fresh flowers; the Opera “Aida”; the homeless; a vodka over ice with two big, fat olives stuffed with anchovies; a competitive game of Scrabble; most live theatre; good food; butterflies; English TV comedies; Robert DeNiro; a good belly laugh; the symphony; good wine; “Antiques Roadshow”; massages; going to the movie theatre; the ballet; Christmas; yellow roses; classical music on the radio and Johnny Carson among many other things. She will be profoundly missed.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters: Janet Barbeln and husband Allan, of Coon Rapids, MN; and Elizabeth Shultz and husband James, and her grandson Sam, of Irving, TX. She is also survived by: her sister, Mildred Loewen of Brooks, Alberta, Canada and her brother, Harvey Brinton and wife Betty, of Westlock, Alberta, Canada, as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, in-laws and friends. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents John & Ruby Brinton and brothers Donald Brinton and Howard Brinton.
While there will not be a memorial service at this time, memorial donations may be made to either of Dorothy’s favorite charities: The Salvation Army or the Presbyterian Night Shelter.
