Davie L. Davis, 88, caring and faithful husband and father, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020 leaving a great void in the lives of his family and friends. He was a man of diverse interests. He made his career in construction followed by his passion for agriculture and ranching, and he was actively involved with the Free Masons.
He was a 1948 graduate of Mesquite High School and attended Texas A&M University. In 1951, he received the Degree of American Farmer through FFA. He was employed for 40 years by Sabre Realty as a Senior Construction Manager over new and remodeled commercial properties. After retiring he began a new career – tending to his treasured Polled Hereford cattle in Canton, Texas.
He was actively involved in the Texas Polled Hereford Association as a member, President and Director. He was an integral part of the State Fair of Texas Youth Auction Committee, Vice President for 25+ years and Open Show Superintendent for 17+ years as well as an active sponsor of The Youth Polled Hereford Heifer Show. He served as both President and Director of the Van Zandt County Fair Association and he was an active supporter of the Rockwall 4-H Club when his children were in school.
In July 2017, The Grand Lodge of Texas honored him as a Free Mason for his more than 60 years of service.
He was a member of Woodhaven Presbyterian Church in Irving, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry E. and Lena Davis and his sister, Elaine Shon. He is survived by his wife, Jerry of 45 years, 5 children – Sonja Davis Browder, Glen Davis and his wife, Kim, Paula Davis and her husband, Bob Bullis, Pam Chenault and Jenny McCartney and her husband, David. He is survived by his grandchildren – Jessica Browder Barton, Payden Bullis, Hutson Davis, Drake Rawson, Seth Chenault, Cy Chenault, Jeniffer Pena, Brandy Swindell, Tanner Cook, Colby & Justin McCartney and numerous great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2:00pm, on Friday, May 1, 2020 at Grove Hill Memorial Park, 3920 Samuell Blvd in Dallas. A brief viewing will be available prior to the start of the graveside for attendees observing the safe distancing and face mask order. Once you have a moment with Mr. Davis at the viewing, we ask that you proceed back to your vehicle for the committal service.
A memorial service will be held at Woodhaven Presbyterian Church in Irving. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic the family has chosen to wait and schedule the service at a later date so that all family and friends may be able to attend. Please continue to check back for updated service date and time.
