Obituary for Cynthia Ellen Martin

Cynthia Ellen Martin passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 68 years of age. Thursday, May 15, 1952 in Fort Hood, Texas to Col. USAR E.G. Martin Jr. and Gloria (Dyer) Martin welcomed their beautiful baby girl into the world and Cynthia’s journey in this life began. During her youth, she experienced many different cultures having lived throughout the United States, and Frankfurt, Germany. Cynthia’s artistic interest flourished into a lifelong passion and career after she had begun art lessons when she was 9 years old.

She graduated from Hershel V Jenkins High School in Savannah, Georgia, Class of 1970, then moved to Valdosta to continue her education at Valdosta State College. During her JR year, Cynthia joined the Valdosta Recreation and Parks Department, where she worked with children in grades first thought sixth, throughout the school district. In 1974, Cynthia proudly received her Bachelor’s of Art in Education. She left Savannah, Georgia and moved to Dallas, Texas in 1977, beginning her teaching career with the Dallas Independent School District; retiring in 2010 after 36 years of service. During her career with DISD, Cynthia was more than just a teacher to her students, she was a positive and uplifting spirit, to the creative minds of those that attended her classes.

Cynthia’s was an extremely intelligent, strong accomplished woman whose soul exuberated patience, love and kindness to everyone. Cynthia was a lover of all animals but held a special connection with pug canine. She was an advocate for many foundations, lovingly opening her home to foster those pugs in need during the journey to their forever home and was the best fur mom to her beloved pugs she adopted into her family. Cynthia was a beautiful, fascinating person, who touched so many lives during her short time here on earth, but none more than her daughter Samantha. The relationship and bond between Cynthia and Samantha was like no other, twin flames with a fire and love that will never dim. She was a mother, sister, teacher and friend, to have known her was to love and learn from her.

Cynthia is preceded in death by her parents and pugs Bailey, Pippa, Mattie and Max.
