Obituary for Alice Catherine Beckett

Alice Catherine Eagleston Beckett (1937 to 2020)

Alice Catherine Eagleston Beckett, 83, peacefully passed away December 6, 2020 in Irving, TX. Alice was born March 4, 1937 in Mineola, Long Island NY. She graduated St. Agnes Academic High School in Queens, NY and then attended Russell Sage College in Troy, NY. Alice was predeceased by the love of her life, John W. Beckett, after 57 years of marriage when he passed on August 31, 2012.
In her youth, Alice was actively involved in the Nassau County 4-H program as a student, educator, and volunteer. With her husband, she moved to Irving in 1958, where she has resided for 62 years. She was an active volunteer while raising her 4 children as a Girl/Boy Scout Leader, various roles within the St. Luke’s Catholic Church and School, and the Irving Soccer Association to name a few. To support a newly formed Irving Soccer Association, Alice and John ran a successful import business enterprise to assist with team supplies.

Alice was an avid reader and patron of the arts. In later years, Alice developed extraordinary needlework skills and was prolific at making a wide variety of beautiful items. With a friend, Alice started a business, Loose Threads, to help co-needlework enthusiasts find supplies, to fuel their passion.
Alice and John were also passionate about pursuing the family’s genealogy. This led them on many adventures abroad to England and Ireland to conduct research and locate relatives. As she continued her own genealogy work, she helped many others with theirs both doing it for them and teaching them how to follow the leads. While on an early adventure to the UK, Alice and John fell in love with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog breed. Bringing Winnie home from England, they joined the Cavaliers of the Midwest Club where they both held offices. They became breeders/volunteers with both the regional club as well as the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club-USA.

Alice is survived by her 4 children, Jane Moore/Tom, Craig, Jim/Toni, and Susan Kilpatrick/Scott. She loved her family deeply and considered herself blessed to additionally have 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Alice’s interests were broad but passionate. She will be dearly missed.
