Abraham De La Torre, age 67, died on Monday, November 18, 2019. Abraham was born on April 20, 1952 in Eddy, Texas to Velia (Barrera) De La Torre and Joe Gonzales De La Torre. Abraham, also known affectionately as either coach or Papa, was a remarkable man. This was manifest in his loyalty to friends and family and the profound ways he cared for those around him. Listening was a big part of this. He was a very genuine and sincere person. What you saw was what you got. Abraham set the high standard for work ethic and served as a spectacular example of how to live. His passions were his family and sports. Abraham was dad to many and a gentle soul. That said, he also understood the need to be tough, and how to teach it. He invested so much in the lives of so many and was highly respected in the Irving community. He believed a great way to identify yourself to others was how you played on the field. He believed strongly in making sure your opponents remembered who you were. In the same way, Abraham, by the way he lived will be fondly remembered. What he did on the field of life will not soon be forgotten. Abraham is preceded in death by his parents; brother Joe De La Torre Jr.; sister Josie Guzman; grandson Kane De La Torre; granddaughter Julia De La Torre. Left to cherish his memory are sons Chris De La Torre and wife Lilly, Aaron De La Torre and wife Lori; brothers Johnny and Robert De La Torre; grandchildren Alex, Adyson, Kolt, and Nicholas De La Torre; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends.
